Don't think they could've he was at the Dou Ling realm, they are only 6 star Dou Shi. Each time someone levels up to a different realm, it's very different from someone raising to a different star/level within the previous realm.

For those curious and would like to know when she actually uses her full strength

- Realising her time is up with Xiao Yan, and after making a promise to "shine" for him, during the inner academy ranking tournament she fights at full strength
- Sadly because Xiao Yan fought a match before hers. He was was injured and became unconscious, the same happened to his opponent, he was unable to see her "shine" with his own eyes but he was told what happened
- She defeats the number two ranked student and was going to fight the first ranked but she concedes defeat just before the fight actually begins, Ziyan the number one ranked once mentioned that she felt a little bit of danger when she sees Xun'Er, implying that Xun'Er is very very strong. She conceded defeat because Ziyan would have been a tough fight. Most importantly there was no need to fight Ziyan, as Xiao Yan never aimed for the top ranking, and he would not have been able to beat Ziyan in any case. She just went and defeat those Xiao Yan wanted to defeat.

Fun fact the number two ranked student was one of the few students that isnt interested in Xun'Er, however after his defeat he began to pay attention to her and wonder why she didnt appear in his life earlier. Unlike most of the other men, he doesnt obsess over her and try to beat Xiao Yan in order to be with her, not that he able to anyway since Xiao Yan's strength is increasing

You need to be a bit more specific as to what episode of the Fanren series you are talking about.

The first episode of the first season/arc is where he is at Core Formation, which is powerful and is narrating his story in the past. A lot of donghua uses flashbacks, some uses it to tell the entire story, some tells parts of the story so I dont know what seems to be the problem.

The only recap season is Fanren Xiu Xian Chuan: Fanren Feng Qi Tian Nan Er
